The post sparked condemnation on social media, including comments on Facebook and X that Cody was a “shameful person” and “stigmatized” user, while others asked him to be fired.

“If this Facebook post is legal, Steve Cody should immediately resign from the Palmeto Bay parliamentary member,” Republican Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier Posted to X Thursday.

The mayor in Palmeto Bay, Florida, located in Miami-Dade County, also called on him to resign, while the council voted 4-1 to vote for him on Monday. Cody was the only member of the council who opposed the condemnation.

“As public officials, we are entrusted to take role models and uphold the values ​​of respect, empathy and civilization that form the foundation of democracy,” Palmetto Bay Mayor Karyn Cunningham wrote in his condemnation of the post on Thursday. “We must imitate the discourse of peace we wish to see in society.”

She added: “With that in mind and with great respect for the office I serve, I must call on Councilman Cody to resign.”

However, the MP does not intend to resign.

Asked about the increasing pressure on resignation, Cody told Fox News Numbers Tuesday that Cody said to Fox News Numbers: “I will not resign.”

Cody was first elected to Palmeto Bay, Florida in 2020 and was elected to the board in 2020 and re-elected the position in 2024, according to his official council biography. The MP is a lawyer who previously outlined commercial litigation and foreclosure defenses foreclosure.

“I regret to quote the quotation from the deceased Charlie Kirk in 2023 regarding the Second Amendment and gun violence by sharing a quote on my personal Facebook page,” he wrote. “This action was born out of my deep anger and frustration with the tragedy of gun violence that is too common now, and it is misled.”

He added: “I want to make it clear that this post does not reflect my personal values, my deep beliefs or my solemn responsibility as an elected official.”

Cody’s Facebook page Fox News Digital found that as of Friday afternoon, it is no longer available as of Friday afternoon.

Kirk was assassinated on the University of Utah campus on September 10 as part of his American journey to turn America back when he was hit in the neck by a bullet. He was talking to the student while sitting under a tent outside when he was shot.

The suspect in the assassination was identified as Utah native Tyler Robinson. Utah Gov. Spencer Cox was arrested later on Thursday night. Cox added that the Shell battery recovered at the shooting scene had anti-fascist news inscribed on the political motives behind the tragedy.
