Mothers turn in their sons accused of vandalizing school library in east-central Florida county

Two mothers in eastern Florida have been charged with criminal charges for damaging the elementary school library and causing at least $50,000 in damages.

Felix Cohen Romero, 12, and Bentley Ryan Wehrly, 13, were charged with two counts of burglary and two counts of alleged trespassing and theft, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a fire alarm issued overnight at Friendship Elementary School in Delton on Sunday, and they found the library was damaged and the glass doors were broken.

The sheriff’s office said the boy’s mother handed them over to them, and the suspect later admitted. They said they destroyed the boring library, and deputies told Orlando’s WKMG-TV.

“I had to give our mom the credibility. They called us, they didn’t tell us the kids coming, and when they were questioned, they admitted what they did. Then, one of them went to the bedroom and took out some items that were stolen from the school – a radio and some digital cameras – and handed them over to us,” Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood Woodwood Wwkmg-tv.

The sheriff’s office did not disclose that any boy was a student at the school.
