Moral comments in the news report on MSNBC’s assassination of Kirk have sparked opposition from social media.
Prior to the firing, MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler issued a statement calling ethical comments “inappropriate, insensitive and unacceptable” and apologized.
On Friday, senior executives at MSNBC’s current parent company Comcast and soon-to-be-parent Versant condemned the insensitive coverage.
“You may have seen that MSNBC recently ended an unacceptable and insensitive comments about this horrible incident with a contributor,” Comcast CEO Brian Roberts, President Mike Cavanagh, and potential Versant Ceo CEO Mark Lazarus wrote in a memo to employees. “This kind of reporting is inconsistent with the perception of promoting civil dialogue and willingness to listen to those who have dissent. We should be able to disagree, firm, passionate, but ultimately, respect. We need to do better.”
