He noted that West Virginia, the District of Columbia and Iowa mentioned politics in terms of biased violence, but New Jersey would be the first to unconditionally classify violence such as Kirk’s murders as hate crimes.
Sussex County Commission Director Chris Carney was also recorded as a supporter of the bill.
Steinhardt praised Carney for leading rural counties in the Northwest tip of Garden State, often referred to as “Tianlan” – providing “leadership and vision” in making the bill.
