Nintendo will release a series of Mario-related announcements this morning as part of the series’ 40th anniversary, including a new game starring his dinosaur companion. Yoshi and the Mysterious Book In the spring of 2026, Switch 2 emerged and we saw a brief gameplay that was straight planted in the cute and fun tradition of past Yoshi platform games.
The world and level of the game seem to be part of a book called Encyclopedia (or Mr. E for short) that Yoshi can jump into and explore. The main hook of the game is to traverse these worlds and record the creatures you encounter in the process, their special abilities that make you progress. For example, there was a yellow walking flower in the past Yoshi games. Finding it and having it ride on Yoshi will make other flowers bloom at that level. It is presumably part of getting to where you need to go. On another level, the dandelions you can spread will make the rock brittle so you can mash and continue.
Like most Yoshi games, there is a cute and unique art style here – the gameplay is recognizable Yoshi Island On SNES, but obviously more modern tweaks were made. It’s not the same thing as the yarn and craft-based things we see in similar games Yoshi’s elaborate world and Yoshi’s Wool World (This introduces absolutely lovely yarn-based Yoshi), but it’s on the court.
although Yoshi And the mysterious world Continuing the kid-friendly aesthetics of those early games, I hope it brings some challenges found in old-fashioned games Yoshi Island. We will find out next year.
