The latest results for US transcripts are an intuition. Nearly half High school student Scores below the foundations in mathematics and reading. Compared to 2019, the last time I was tested, the results were terrible. This is just a sign that our education system is not ready for students to be college, work and life.
But here’s the thing: parents don’t need other tests to tell them this. They see it every day. Edchoice’s 2025 school survey in the United States found that 68% of Americans and 60% of parents believe the K-12 education path is wrong. Families have been deeply concerned about the quality of education their children receive and they are looking for something better.
Furthermore, our polls always find Half of the parents Say they would prefer schools outside of local area schools if they had the opportunity to choose. However, about one in 10 children stay in these schools. Parents want to change, but too many people don’t know which options they can choose, nor do they encounter obstacles when they try to switch.
The struggle of charter schools in some rural countries in the United States
But the difference in satisfaction with the school is shocking when they have the opportunity to choose. About half of private academic parents (49%) said they were “very satisfied” with their children’s education, 17 points higher than those in public schools. When families can match their children’s needs to the right environment, children thrive and parents’ stress will be reduced and the entire community will benefit.
For all of us, the good news is School selection It’s no longer just a topic. It is becoming increasingly the norm in the country. Many states now offer educational options programs available to each student, while many others have programs that serve targeted groups. Enrollment in private choice programs nationwide has increased by 25% over the past year to exceed 1.3 million students. Families are voting with their feet towards schools and programs they believe will help their children succeed.
Why? Because the evidence supports them. One study showed that educational choices benefit students academically, strengthen civic values, improve parental satisfaction, and even improve public schools.
Parents support it These plans are on an extraordinary level. For more than a decade, our survey has asked Americans about their opinions on different school choice policies. Year after year, most parents express support. This year, 83% of parents said they support the Education Savings Account (ESA). Other policies, such as coupons, charter schools and tax scholarships, are highly supported. Importantly, three-quarters of Americans say ESA should be universally available, not limited by income or demand. Supporting crosses political boundaries and illustrates the simple fact that every family should be free to find the right education for their children.

Families are already moving, looking for new schools, forming learning pods and applying for scholarships. Leaders should make it so easy, not harder.
The bet cannot be higher. The future of our children and the future of our country depends on an effective education system. Parents are ready to change. Now it’s time to give them the freedom to choose schools that can unlock their children’s potential.
