As Weimers continued to give up the rest of his speech, Vice President Katarina Barley cut him off, sparking protests from the desk, sending protests from right-wing lawmakers in the room.
“We’ve already discussed this, you know the president said no to a minute of silence,” Barley said, applauding the centrist and left-leaning members.
Outside the conference hall, Hungary’s Fidesz Mepz András László accused parliament of hypocrisy, noting that it had previously paid tribute to George Floyd but rejected Kirk.

Some lawmakers have also posted images of “I am Charlie” online, showing the slogan of the 2015 Charlie Hebdo attack.
Metsola defended the decision in line with the parliamentary process and expressed her condolences.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and young children, who are the cornerstone of his life,” she said.
