I usually ignore Apple’s SE model because it lacks many of the power features of the flagship and super versions, such as always online display or temperature tracking. But this year, the underdog Apple Watch SE 3 is closing the gap, with the base model priced at $249, which is probably a bunch of best value. The first time I’ve considered recommending it watch For most people (at least on paper).
The second-generation SE has never been refreshed since 2022, so this update has long been expected and has not disappointed. Apple is not a gatekeeper this year, as the SE 3 now has many features that once reserved for more expensive series and Ultra models, such as the powerful S10 chip Series 11 and Ultra 3), new 5G connectivity and always online display. It also adds temperature tracking, sleep apnea alert, sleep score, one-handed control control and fast charging. Just like on high-end watches, you can even play music through the speakers.
The addition of the monitor feels like a turning point. For me, this is always the biggest drawback of SE. Not only does it help with exercise, it can also be disabled to extend battery life if necessary.

FOMO time
There are still some downsides to choosing a more affordable SE 3, but not that many. It lacks some advanced health features that rely on upgraded sensors, such as new hypertension notifications and ECG.
Battery life hasn’t changed either; Apple still requires SE 3 to claim 18 hours. Compare it to the Series 11 and Ultra 3 that Apple said will get 24 and 42 hours respectively. However, charging time has taken a huge leap from previous models. SE 3 now supports ultra-fast charging for debut Series 10so you can quickly cover it and add 8 hours of juice to the charger in just 15 minutes.
The biggest aesthetic difference is the size: the SE 3 has 40mm and 44mm options, while the 42mm and 44mm options for the Series 11 and the 49mm option for the Ultra 3. It also lacks some niche features such as depth gauge and water temperature sensor.
I’m the weak who have taken root and this year it feels like SE’s turn is shining. Whether you are the first time Apple Watch owner, Buy for your kids or family members or from Series 5 Or older, SE 3 offers excellent values.
It is now available for pre-orders and will be available in the store on September 19. The 40mm Wi-Fi model costs $249, while the cellular model costs $299.
