When I served as Israel’s Foreign Minister in 2021, United Nations General Assembly A series of resolutions against Israel have been passed. A year later in 2022, when I served as Prime Minister, the General Assembly passed another series of resolutions against Israel.
No one cares. No one rushed into my office, waving papers. We didn’t squeeze in front of the TV, holding sweaty hands and waiting for the vote. The Israeli United Nations ambassador did not call me, cho saved tears and admitted that he felt he was a failure. The fact of the United Nations opposition and vote on Israel is like the rain in London: that’s what it does. They gathered to give the same speech as last year, voted in the same way last year, and then had supper at Wolfgang on Park Avenue.
With such friends, who needs enemies to push the demolition of Trump’s Middle East peace agreement?

The idea of the United Nations is out of the desire of democratic countries to promote liberal values and human rights. It is based on the universal declaration of human rights. Article 21 declares that the organization will promote the development of global democracy so that “regular and genuine elections … guarantee free expression of the will of the people” anywhere. It only lacks five words: or you won’t be accepted.
The mix of postcolonial innocence and ideological laziness has led the United Nations to recognize an increasingly non-democratic state. According to the Economic Intelligence Department of the 193 Member States of the United Nations, only 25 are “completely democratic countries” and 46 are “flawed democracies.” In other words, in every vote, every budget, every resolution, non-democrats have an automatic majority. They use it without the slightest doubt.
That’s it Iran Mahsa Amini sat on the UN Commission on the Status of Women when she was murdered. Syria presided over the disarmament conference in 2018, while convening meetings for its own citizens. North Korea chaired the same disarmament conference in 2022 while publicly wielding nuclear weapons and launching ballistic missiles at Japan. China is currently serving on the Human Rights Council – apparently because it cares a lot about human rights.

All of this before we even touch the obsessive bias of the United Nations – Sorry, there are no better words for Israel. I am the last person to claim Israel is perfect or has no mistakes. I disagree with most of the current government, especially in Gaza (I support Iran’s strike and actions against Hezbollah in Lebanon). Nevertheless, the treatment of Israel is a diplomacy of mental illness. Israel accounts for 0.1% of the global population, but over the past decade, the above accounts for more than 60% of the UN’s condemnation resolutions.

Over the past decade, the General Assembly has adopted 187 resolutions against Israel and only 86 resolutions for the rest of the world. But the voting model of the United Nations has never changed.

It’s not just ridiculous – it’s an expensive ridiculous. The United Nations system spends more than US$70 billion, exceeding the entire annual budget for Luxembourg, Estonia, Malta and Cyprus. Most of the money comes from the United States and the European Union. It disappears into an irresponsible black hole. One thing is clear: as promised in the UN Charter, it is not used to promote “the inherent dignity and equality and inalienable rights of all members of the human family.”

So, what do we need?
We need a democratic country. I suggest calling it Dawn – the democratic alliance of the world’s democracies, although poetry may be done less. We don’t need to reshape their goals. We just need to clarify the terms of membership: commitment to democracy; willingness to face authoritarian leaders who laugh at everything we have; focusing on fighting the great threats of our time – terrorismreligious fanaticism, fake news, nuclear weapons in the hands of the reckless regime, and abuse of democratic mechanisms by those who despise democracy itself.
On the positive side, the organization should focus on safeguarding genuine economic cooperation among countries with intellectual property rights, human rights, freedom of speech and fair elections, thereby inspiring other countries to move towards democracy. Most importantly, we have to say clearly to the world: If you want the money, power and capacity of a democratic country, you must follow their rules. Democracy is not an exclusive club. This is a binding contract. Those who refuse to respect it should no longer be allowed to abuse its privileges.
