“Conor McGregor saved Ireland for the president,” he said.

McGregor posted a petition online last month citing regulations that “requires candidates to be nominated by twenty members or four county councils from Oireachtas in order to be eligible for a vote.”

“While the system is designed to ensure the level of political influence among candidates, it inadvertently limits the direct voice of Irish voters,” McGregor said.

“In view of this, I filed a petition asking for the modification of the nomination process to allow my name to be included in the vote. I think that at home and abroad, citizens of Ireland should have no right to identify candidates that appear in the presidential vote, and therefore, I ask you to win this support in this campaign process, thus giving the Irish people a shape of their own future.”

McGregor hasn’t fought since his legs against Dustin Poirier in 2021. He was supposed to return last year, but a toe injury left him out of the octagon. After that, he said he would only return at the stadium, but UFC Events held by the White House next year.
