Amazon Music has just launched a new AI-powered weekly playlist based on listeners’ “preferences and emotions.” It just means it scratches what you are already listening to and infers further. It does not apply modern technology to evaluate the user’s actual mood.
The company says playlists include “a combination of “from the most listened artists and the latest favorites to the newly discovered familiar favorites.” I’m not sure how different things are always done with music streaming platforms that create personalized playlists, except to make those playlists using Amazon’s Bedrock Generative AI platform.
They do carry lively names, suggesting song genres like “authorized national anthem” and “melodge elasticity.” This seems to be similar to Spotify’s dayistalso use cute little names. Amazon playlists can be saved to the library via text or social media or shared with friends.
“This feature represents another way we use AI to help fans connect with more music that resonates with them,” said Ryan Redington, general manager of Amazon Music. He also said this brings a “new dimension” to the service by “creating personalized playlists to celebrate their favorite artists while introducing new music that matches their unique tastes.” Again, personalized playlists are nothing new.
