The leak is just a standout at Tuesday’s “awesome” Apple event, and it looks like the iPhone 17 series will have a significant increase in battery life.
According to the leaker @shrimpapplepro On X, China’s regulatory list shows that all new phones Apple unveiled on Tuesday – iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max – There will be a larger battery. The exception will be the iPhone 17 Air, which will trade its ultra-slim build to reduce battery capacity.
We can’t verify the rumors, but we will find out if they are accurate within 24 hours. Apple did not immediately respond to CNET’s request for comment.

The biggest jump is the Pro, which will get 18.7% from the battery capacity of the previous iPhone 16 Pro, especially from 3,582 mAh to 4,252 mAh. If the past was a prologue, it could mean a few more hours in the video streaming time. The iPhone 16 Pro has a battery capacity of 300 mAh higher than the iPhone 15 Pro, and then translated into Play for another four hours.
YouTube Tech Influencer Austin Evans (5.7 million subscribers) are “excited” about the larger iPhone battery and thinks that if Apple upgrades its cooling, the Pro Max could be the “battery champion” of all phones. But Evans has “too many problems” with the air.
“I do think that a thinner design will appeal to some people (and certainly more important than the typical model of the past,” Evans told CNET. “It can provide enough life for the average user, especially paired with Apple’s C1 modem, but it feels like a phone that might want to rely on a MagSafe battery pack.”
Evans said he was sold thinly after using the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge. “It’s hard to describe how a super Maasley phone feels to someone who hasn’t tried it,” Evans said. “It’s one of the things you want to compromise around all the tradeoffs (mostly) worthwhile.”
Another tidbit of @shrimpapplepro is that Apple will eventually cross the 5,000-MAH threshold for the first time with the iPhone 17 Pro Max, with a capacity of 5,088 mah. This will be three to four hours of battery life compared to the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

It seems that the iPhone 17 model with an ESIM slot has a larger battery than the iPhone 17 model with a physical SIM tray. These ESIM iPhones are only available in China and other selected markets. Since the iPhone 14 lineup, U.S. customers have only been able to buy iPhones with ESIM slots.

- iPhone 17 Air, 3,149 mah (33% less than iPhone 16)
