Supertramp co-founder Rick Davies dead at 81

Rick Davies, co-founder of British rock band SuperTramp, Died on Saturday At his home in Long Island. He is 81 years old.

SuperTramp confirmed on the band’s website that Davis died of cancer after years of fighting multiple myeloma.

“Born from Swinton, England Rick’s love for music began in 1944 when he listened to Gene Krupa’s “drummin’Man”, which grew in enthusiasm for jazz, blues and rock music,” the band wrote in an online tribute.

“As a co-author, along with partner Roger Hodgson, he is the sound and pianist behind the most iconic songs of the Super Balloon, leaving an indelible mark on the history of rock music.”

Davies wrote that singing “Good by Stranger” and “Great Good” is besides hits on the band.

The band continued: “His soul-filled voice and the unquestionable Wurlitzer became the heartbeat of the band’s voice.”

“Besides the stage, Rick is known for his warmth, resilience and passion for his wife Sue, who shared with him for fifty years. After facing serious health challenges, he couldn’t continue to tour as a superrunner, and he loved performing with his hometown buds as Ricky and Ricky and Rockets.”

Supertramp added: “Rick’s music and legacy continue to inspire many people and prove the fact that great songs are never ending.”
