one North Carolina Manchester City approved a measure to declare itself a “Fourth Amendment Workplace” and to promote protections for illegal immigrant workers targeted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Durham City Council passed the resolution on Tuesday, which voted unanimously to protect city workers from attacks and arrested by federal officials. Duke Chronicle.

The Chronicle reported that the resolution directed city staff to “maintain the Fourth Amendment to their workplaces and city institutions and report to the Council any barriers to effective training for any department”.

The resolution said the city “has historically pursued fairness and security for all residents, adding that having the trust of residents is essential to conducting its actions.
The measure stressed that the threat of “unconstitutional seizure” prevented immigrants in cities from “safely participating in public life, including employment and education.”
The resolution comes after four agents dressed in plain clothes appeared in Durham County Court in July to detain illegal immigrants on felony charges against domestic violence, despite the man not taking to his scheduled court to hear any arrests.
“Our residents have witnessed ice sheet agents in our community, instilling widespread fear and uncertainty,” Leo Williams said in a statement following the incident. “While local leaders cannot legally cover the federal use and weaponization of ice, we can and must maintain strategic solidarity with neighboring countries.”

The federal government accused Durham in April of a so-called “sanctuary” community that allegedly failed to go with Immigration officials.
