Umpires confiscate Astros outfielder Taylor Trammell’s bat in strange scene after double

Houston Astronauts Midfielder Taylor Trammell was confiscated in the 9th inning at Daikin Park on Thursday.

Trammell, 27, broke Yankees closer David Bednar was at the top of the ninth inning, and manager Aaron Boone asked the referee to see the bat.

“It’s just something we noticed this series and asked about the league,” Boone told reporters after the game, via ESPN. “You don’t allow anything to do with the bat. I’m not saying he is. I just… we noticed, and the league thinks it might be illegal, too.”

“The color change is on the label, like. I don’t know if it’s natural or sand…I don’t know. I don’t want to blame Taylor. I can’t say anything.”

Tramel played five games for the Yankees last season, playing 106 games with the Yankees’ triple A branch, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders.

Tramel said he had a lot of “respect” to Boone but didn’t understand why he was checking out his bats.

“I have a lot of respect for Boonie when I’m there. He’s directly with me,” Trammell told reporters via ESPN. “In this case, I really don’t understand. I don’t understand.”

The Astros’ outfielder said he was told the Yankees think his bats were “too shaved.”

“To be honest, I don’t know how you scraped the bat. I don’t know what it is,” Tramer said.

“My biggest problem is that I feel a little defensive right now, more (in the process of testing my character, like I’m going to do that. I’m a little lost. I think if someone knows me, I know I’ll never cheat on any turn or something like that. I don’t know. For me, it’s confusing.
