Medical breakthroughs in the birth of the brewery laboratory
The story behind Traumagel begins with a teenager in the brewery laboratory. Joe Landolina, the current CEO of Cresilon, developed the technology at the age of 17.
“My grandfather was a retired chemist who owned vineyards in upstate New York,” explains Landolia. “I worked with him every day after school since I was a kid. During that time, I developed a strong love for chemistry, especially the plant-based chemistry of ingredients found in nature around me.”
Love becomes research. “At the age of 17, I was trying to extract polymers from the algae cell walls and found a matrix that immediately binds to living tissue,” he said.
He brought the idea to the New York University business planning competition, and Cresilon was born. The company now operates in a 55,000-square-foot biomanufacturing facility with nearly 100 employees in Brooklyn.

“Traumagel affects how we deal with traumatic injuries in any case,” said Lieutenant David Kleiman of the Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services. “In the past, we used traditional methods such as digital pressure or wound packaging because of connective injuries like neck, armpits or groin. This required multiple crew members and took time.
“Using Traumagel, we can manage a hemostatic agent that controls bleeding in seconds,” he continued. “Staff can continue to perform faster evaluation and treatment and enable patients to undergo definitive care faster.”

How it saves firefighters’ lives
In a recent case, a Cobb County firefighter was injured in a response to an abandoned home. He tripped on the hill, cut his hands on the broken glass and tried to stop himself from bleeding. But this doesn’t work.
“He eventually realized he couldn’t control the bleeding and went back to the engine,” Kleiman recalled. “The crew pointed out that he was pale and sweaty, and that his voting gear was saturated with blood. The traditional method failed, so they managed the Traumagel. This stopped the bleeding immediately.”
Firefighters were then treated for blood loss and fully recovered after the operation.

From the Fire Department to the Ministry of Defense
In more demanding environments, Cresilon’s bleeding control gel is being tested.
Randylina said: “In addition to taking Traumagel in the hands of all the first responders in the country, our know-how is being studied for a wider range of applications. U.S. Department of Defense Walter Reed Army Institute. ”
The focus of this study is on penetrating traumatic brain injury (TBI). “Preliminary findings demonstrate the results of our technology’s ability to control bleeding and provide neuroprotection after TBI,” he said. The team plans to conduct further research based on these results.
