Some Chicago lawmakers stressed that as New York City handles crime, stronger law enforcement and federal partnerships are needed.
President Donald Trump hinted that there could be a federal surge in the city, which could include National Guard forces and immigration authorities such as Mayor Brandon Johnson and Governor JB Pritzker Oppose this possibility. However, others have more nuanced options because they want more support, but not within the scope of sending back guards.
Alderman Nicholas Nicholas Sposato told Fox News News’ U.S. Report Wednesday: “100% need help, 100% want help. I don’t want to see 18-year-old 19-year-olds on the streets of Chicago, and I believe it’s the secret to disaster, so my preference is to hire more police officers.” Sposato is just one of two independents in the city council, because 48 out of 50 are Democrats.

“But the president and the governor need to talk about and figure out something,” he added.
Alderman Anthony Napolitano, another independent on the board, told Fox Business Network’s “bottom line” that the city has a “gang problem”.
“It’s hypocritical because our politicians here are always putting their politics and agendas on people in the city of Chicago,” said Napolitano, a former local. police officerexplain.

The Democrat’s Chicago alderman Raymond Lopez also raised concerns about crime when he spoke with Fox News Channel’s Fox Report on Sunday.
“I think the federal surge will actually help,” he said. “Although we see our statistics moving in the right direction, they will object to bringing them further, even lower, which means there are fewer victims on the street.”
He added: “In my opinion, it’s definitely my Democratic colleagues say we don’t want more help.”
Meanwhile, various crimes in Washington, D.C. have dropped sharply since federal takeover last month. Although many Democrats criticized the decision to patrol the streets, the existence of additional law enforcement has won praise from the mayor Muriel BowserDemocrats who initially criticized the policy.

“For carjacking, the difference in this period is that this 20-day period of federal surge and last year’s difference represents an 87% reduction in carjacking in Washington, D.C.,” Bowser said in a press conference last week. “We know that when the carjacking bag falls down, when the gun is used, when the homicide or the robbery falls down, the community feels safer and safer. So for this reason, this surge is important to us.”
As for Johnson, he recently signed an executive order that severely restricts the ability of local law enforcement to work with federal authorities, which could surge.

“We will protect our constitution, we will protect our cities, we will protect our people,” Johnson said in a recent press conference. “We don’t want to see tanks on the streets. We don’t want to see family members torn apart. We don’t want to have grandma thrown in the back of an unmarked van. We don’t want to see homeless Chicago people harassed or disappeared by federal agents.”
