Recently discovered Test a way to share longer textMeta’s X rival Threads is now officially launching the feature, which allows users to attach text characters of up to 10,000 characters to their posts. The addition is designed with creators’ needs in mind, as it supports linking to content outside of threads such as newsletters, blogs, podcasts, etc.
Prior to this update, threads supported 500 characters – already far exceeding the 280 characters provided by X unverified users. However, X introduces a way for its paid subscribers in 2023 Publish up to 25,000 characters, Hopefully, creators are encouraged to publish their content directly on their platform.
Meanwhile, Meta is not far. Instead, the company says 10,000 characters provide people with more space to express themselves, but also allows them to promote their work and drive others to “wherever”, even if not on the thread.

Prior to the release, Meta noticed that people were using screenshots to share longer books, articles, newsletters, podcast transcripts, and more, which inspired the addition and design of the feature.
The company sees its users often want to point people to the original work or where they buy their own work and have a conversation on the subject after they have a conversation on the subject. For example, the author might want to share text from an upcoming book to drive bookings, while the journalist might want to promote one of its longer features.
On X, users have long been threading and numbering a series of linked posts around the limits of role counts to share longer ideas, or by uploading screenshots from apps like Apple Notes. Seeing this trend, X is trying to take advantage of the need for longer roles by making it a paid feature.
However, threads are offering their other characters for free.

The company confirmed to TechCrunch that there are currently no plans to make money through text attachments. Additionally, Meta notes that text in posts can be formatted with highlighted, bold or underlined text, strikes and italics. You can even add emojis.
The company said it is also exploring other enhancements based on community feedback.
Meta said that if the creator links to content outside the thread, the link will be displayed “significantly” in the attachment for viewers to click. This is also the lens of X, changing its user interface to The visibility of a faint linkand often piece Link Services to the outside world of owner Elon Musk.
However, there are some disadvantages to using longer text from threads.
Content in text attachments will not be indexed by search engines like Google and will not be combined. The latter refers to how a thread supports the publication of its posts to the wider open social network, Including decentralized services such as Mastodon. This support allows thread users to search and follow users of other servers, in addition to threads, see who follows you and who likes posts on these servers, and posts on threads posted on other servers, and posts on other servers.
Meta said it is exploring how to combine longer text attachments for future iterations.
