Forget Lawncare With One of Our Favorite Robot Mowers

Maybe you aren’t ready to give up control of mowing, but you’re tired of pushing the mower away. The Mowrator S1 is a bit crazy remote-controlled lawn mower that might be what you need. I think the S1 sounds like a stupid idea, but this remote-controlled lawn mower is much more interesting than I expected. If you like playing RC cars when you are young, you will get some nostalgic joy by mowing the beasts of the lawn mower, which is satisfying to mow the grass like this. I tested four-wheel drive models that can handle a variety of terrain, but there are cheaper two-wheel drive models that can be used for smaller, less challenging lawns.

The S1 is very heavy. Seriously, please ask some help to bring it out of the box. Setting up is quick and easy, just tighten the wheels, plug in the battery, and start the remote control console. I hope MOWRATOR will be slow, but there are some serious VA-VA-Vooms in this matter. It’s fast and responsive, handled like a giant RC car, which is exactly what the console feels like, with two joysticks that can be easily controlled and a Wee touchscreen to adjust settings. With a large amount of cutting widths and gear, you can choose your preferred height, making lawn mowing quick and easy. I was also able to drive it through my side door and drive it along the cutting route as well.

The downside is autonomy. To start it, you can hold the shoulder trigger and tap the Start button on the screen. Release the trigger and stop automatically. I had to turn off the sonar alert because it refused to mow the edges of the lawn, but it did detect obstacles reliably and cut them off for safety. S1 warns you to be safe every time you start, but I worry that it is dangerous in the wrong hands. When it detects an obstacle during my testing it always stops, but sometimes it only after colliding with something. It is also heavy, so the driver needs to focus. While lawn mowers don’t allow the laziness of automatic lawn mowers, I was pleasantly surprised by the joy of using and even felt a little disappointed after finishing my job. It’s a weird device and it’s expensive, but forever, I’ve been looking forward to mowing the grass again.
