Trump told reporters at the Oval Office Wednesday that “we are deciding now” about where the National Guard resources will be deployed next.

However, Democratic City Council Chairman Helena Moreno slammed Trump’s remarks and said in a statement: “Our crime and violence in New Orleans are unprecedented”, a blue city in a red state.
“It’s an attack on certain cities. There are many cities that maintain serious crime problems with the president, but are not targeted by the mayor,” Moreno added. “It makes it clear that it’s about intimidation tactics and public safety. It ultimately leads to the abuse of public funds and resources in an attempt to score political points.”
“We can’t allow this, and I will work to prevent the federal government from taking over New Orleans,” she declared.

U.S. Rep. Troy Carter, a Democrat whose district includes New Orleans, called Trump’s comments “political stunts.”
“Militaryizing the streets of New Orleans is not the solution,” he said in a statement. If the President wants to provide federal resources to the city, I will work with him to fund recruitment and better training of police officers, better fund our district attorneys, repair the infrastructure of the Orleans Parish prison, and fund his plans for the root causes of crime he has cut: Total poverty. ”
