Minister of Health and Human Services Robert Kennedy Jr. The U.S. public lost confidence in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and outlined his plans to rebuild trust for the Wall Street Journal column editor, the U.S. said Tuesday.
Kennedy Accusation Decades of bureaucracy, politicized science and “mission spread” are intended to undermine the central role of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in protecting Americans from infectious diseases and wasting public confidence.
Kennedy noted that the CDC’s response to Covid-19 is an example of the dysfunction that “generates irrational policies” and further erodes the agency.
“Toddlers’ cloth masks, arbitrary 6-foot distances, boosters for healthy children, prolonged school closures, lockdowns of economic sprints, and inhibition of low-cost therapeutics to support experimental and ineffective drugs,” he wrote. “The casualties are devastating.”

While some may view the agency’s mistakes during the pandemic as one-time mistakes, Kennedy asserted that such failures were “anomalous”, citing life expectancy and reduced public trust as evidence.
“The trust has collapsed: Only one-third of health care workers participated in the 2023-24 fall boost boost program, and in 2024-25 children under the age of 12, less than 10% received boosters. Americans no longer believe that the CDC has their best interests.”
At the operational level, the HHS Secretary criticized the CDC’s budget allocation and staffing. He tore half of the agency’s total budget to support its infectious disease mission, and in fact, less than one in ten of its staff are epidemiologists – he blamed for the CDC’s “catastrophic” pandemic response.
