notebookGemini Dynamics’ AI research assistant will soon be aroused debate or criticism of your research and annotations in its audio overview feature. Three new audio summary formats Announced on Tuesday – known as introduction, criticism and debate – will provide users with more choices and add flavor to already one of Google’s best AI tools.
The Audio Overview feature is the catalyst for NotebookLM as a note-taking tool that uses only the sources you provide and makes the information easier to digest. NoteBookLM is multi-modal, so you can create a podcast-like audio overview or generate a study guide if you have more styles.
Although the audio overview is novel First demonstration in 2024Google has since included it More Its products. Google recently introduced the first one Video Overview Formatalso. This is something new.

New audio overview: short, critical, debate
When first introduced, the audio overview provides “in-depth dive” on your source, reducing fat, and focusing on a general overview of the topic.
Later, Google introduced a way to customize audio overviews so you can focus on the material that matters most to you. You can also customize the length of the overview.
While the default option is still typical of deep diving, there are now three new options to users – short, critical and debate.
- Briefing: 1-2 Minutes Occlusion Overview
- Criticism: Constructive feedback on materials
- Debate: Two hosts have thoughtful debate
Although I can’t test the new overview types, I think both criticism and debate formats may be useful for learning different perspectives that you may not have considered before.
Introducing different audio overview formats is a reliable upgrade, especially if you are looking for an alternative to the topic. The new format also opens the door to more options in the future, allowing laptops to become a more nuanced learning tool.
