The Department of Homeland Security has a looming National Guard and federal immigration enforcement surge in Chicago, keeping pressure on Illinois leaders as Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker said it could be an “invasion.”
President Donald Trump has repeatedly suggested that he would send the FBI to Chicago after the federal government took over Washington, D.C., and many reports suggest that immigration authorities could be stationed in the area as part of the operation.
DHS Secretary General Kristi Noem said on CBS: “He could talk about a great job he had as governor, but he made those families who would no longer be with the children, mothers or their fathers or their cousins, aunts, aunts and uncles fail because violence in Chicago happened.

Technically, the federal government can provide some level of supervision over the capital police force, but now there are National Guard and federal agencies with ice and FBI on the streets of DC to curb crimes, including immigration-related arrests.
Trump posted to the truth social on Tuesday: “At least 54 people were shot in Chicago over the weekend. The last two weekends are similar. Chicago is the worst and most dangerous city in the world.”

“Pritzker needs a terrible help, he just doesn’t know yet. I’ll fix the crime as quickly as I am in the District of Columbia. Chicago will be safe again, soon.
Fox News Digital reported that since Trump took office in January, various serious criminal arrests by the DHS have been conducted in the Chicago area, including illegal immigrants who have committed homicide and sexual crimes against children.
Democratic Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has taken strong measures to limit the federal impact on the city, including signing an executive order that limits the ability of local police to cooperate with federal authorities.

“This executive order makes it clear that the president will not come in and represent our police department,” Johnson said in a press conference.
“We will protect our constitution, we will protect our cities, we will protect our people,” he continued. “We don’t want to see tanks on the streets. We don’t want to see family members torn apart. We don’t want to have grandma thrown in the back of an unmarked van. We don’t want to see homeless Chicago people harassed or disappeared by federal agents.”
On Friday, Pritzker called the possibility of troops deploying to the city a “invasion.”

“It’s obvious that this is being planned secretly. Well, it’s an invasion of the U.S. military, if they actually do that,” Pritzker told CBS’s Ed O’Keefe.
