India’s Modi cozies up with Putin, Xi in statement against Trump ‘bullying’

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a warm meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday, sending a clear message to Washington after President Donald Trump’s serious tariffs on India came into effect last Monday.

XI hosted Modi, Putin and other members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in the port city of Tianjin. China has long tried to establish the organization to challenge our dominance and NATO. Modi, portrayed as a friendly exchange and holding hands with the two leaders, stressed that India sees itself as China’s “companion” rather than a “competitor.”

Modi’s trip was his first visit to China in seven years. He also rode in Putin’s presidential limousine, with Putin’s visit last month at Trump in Alaska. After the summit, the two leaders held a separate bilateral meeting.

Modi wrote on X: “The conversation with him is always insightful.”

Putin in turn called Modi his “dear friend” and expressed his gratitude to India and Russia for sharing the “friendly and trustworthy” relationship.

Modi never criticized trump card Or, in India’s tariff clash with Trump, his warm-up to the U.S. rivals is a clear condemnation. The United States began imposing 50% tariffs on Indian goods since last week. Xi Jinping also stopped naming Washington, but in his summit speech, the state condemned the state’s “bullying behavior.”

“Seldom know that we have very little business with India, but they have a lot of business with us,” Trump wrote, adding that the United States is India’s “biggest customer.”

“They are willing to cut the tariffs to nothing, but it’s too late. They should have done this a few years ago. Just some simple facts people think about!” he continued.

Modi’s visit with Putin and XI is just the latest sign of cooling relationship Between Washington and New Delhi. India’s national security adviser traveled to Moscow last month, and its foreign minister visited China’s foreign minister Wang Yi last week for talks in Delhi in mid-August. Putin is also expected to hold Modi in Moscow by the end of the year.
