I first learned Pula from a friend whose house always smells like a high-end boutique in any case. Cooking items, leaks…I smell berries no matter what happened in her house at the time. I have two cats and a multi-sport tween-I know I need this. Now, about 14 months into the Pura trip, I have some ideas.
While I spent most of my time with the now discontinued Pura 3, I have since used the Pura 4 and the new large room Pura Plus, all with double surrounds with two Pura’s proprietary oil boxes. Both the PURA 3 and 4 are plugged into the socket and can only be controlled via the included app (or Alexa or Google Home). This is very convenient for setting up schedules and timers, switching perfumes, and changing the color of optional night lights, but there are many cases where I want to stop or start or change the schedule but since I forgot my password or diffuser can’t connect to Wi-Fi. At the moment, it’s outrageous. Kindly, independent, cylindrical pura Plus has manual control buttons on the front. The smaller Pura 4 is indeed best suited for enclosed spaces such as long entrances or bedrooms (note that both are only suitable for 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi). If you have a high ceiling or any open floor plan, you will get better results from Pura Plus. Note that unlike the silent Pura 4, the sound from Plus is actually loud – 32 dB, as loud as a low fan.
Another disappointing feature is the varied quality of the cartridge brand. I experienced undetectable odors, chip stickers arrive or register the wrong fragrance (the diffuser automatically scans the chip to show the perfume in the app), while the bottle on the bottle sticks to it, so the pliers are needed. Given that the 0.33 ounce of the cartridge is $11 to $17, I don’t think this should happen. That said, Pura is known for its clean premium oils that are safe for pets and homes, so it can be provided. There is a wide selection of seasonal and year-round cartridges from companies like Nest, Anthropologie and Capri Blue, and I love everyone I’ve tried, maybe I’ve tried it. Due to the small size and price of the cartridge, if you want to smell the scatterer all day, Pura may not be the best option as you end up spending a small amount of money. But if you like unique luxury scents and just need them occasionally and/or on demand, Pura is the way to go. – Kat Merck
