Dissidents from around the world gathered in Geneva, Switzerland to tell the story of their survival and escape from the authoritarian regime. In just a few days, UN Human Rights Commission (UNHRC) will hold its 58th session in the same city.
Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN surveillance, set a record directly at the UN University in his opening speech at the Human Rights and Democracy Summit in Geneva.

The summit also features dissidents from previous member states, including Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Eritrea, Afghanistan and Russia.
Vladimir Kara-Murza said at the summit: “When good people in democratic countries join their efforts, when they are together, when they work together, they are stronger than dictatorship. ”
Russian pro-democracy activist Kara-Murza was sentenced to jail in April 2022 for opposing the Ukrainian war. He was released in August 2024. Before his recent imprisonment, Kara-Murza made two attempts to get poisoned at Russian hands.
