Former New York Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo On Tuesday, New York City’s campaign financing regulator was denied nearly $3 million in public campaign funds.
The rejection of $2.5 million in publicly matched campaign funds comes after a crazy email sent Friday calling on those donated to his campaign to fill out forms to make sure all requirements for public funds must be met. But this effort failed.
The public confirmation of the rejection was conducted in a Tuesday press release from the New York City Campaign Finance Committee (NYCCFB), which showed that at least 20% of Cuomo’s required disclosures contained document errors with donations. The press release also said the Cuomo movement failed to meet the threshold of its required two-part contributions, which would have to be at least 1,000 different people and contributors would have to reach at least $250,000 to get publicly matched funds.

“Our campaign was officially announced on March 1 and within 13 days, it proudly raised $1.5 million, including $330,000 in matchable funds from more than 2,800 donors. This exceeded the threshold for the campaign finance committee’s campaign committee to get an additional $13 for the March 13 campaign, an additional $13. Cuomo spokesman Rich Azzopardi said in a statement.
“Last Friday, the campaign finance committee informed the event that donations collected on one of our supplier platforms were missing one of the areas required for the campaign finance committee due to technical software errors, so the campaign must remedy this technical issue when we reach the threshold needed to get matching funds.”
Azzopardi noted that the “technical software bug” had been fixed and provided sufficient documentation to the city’s campaign finance committee. However, the event won’t receive matching funds until the next payment period starting May 12.
Bill Maher suggests Andrew Cuomo’s nursing home scandal could cost his New York mayoral campaign
According to Politico, nearly all other mayoral candidates received spending on Tuesday. But incumbent mayor Eric Adams found himself rejecting $4.5 million in matching funds for the same reason as Cuomo for the same reason.

Siena College poll found Cuomo was the leader among Democrats, but Adams was not included in the findings because he will run for reelection as an independent.
Adams faces a federal corruption investigation until the Trump administration intervenes and is dismissed. The findings were that Richard Davis, a member of the NYCCFB, withdrew the vote on anything related to Adams after writing an editorial earlier this year, slamming President Donald Trump’s Justice Department to step in with the Adams case, referring to “ridiculous.”

During the last round of payments for NYCCFB announced on March 17, Adams was also publicly matched with funds.
