The U.S. General Services Administration saved $1 million by converting decades of information storage technology, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) said Friday.
In an article on X, Doge said agencies that provide office space, transportation and other essential services to federal agencies save money by converting 14,000 magnetic tapes into permanent modern digital records.
The move is part of the mission of Elon Musk to get rid of wasting government spending.

Earlier this week, the group said Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Pay hundreds of thousands of dollars a month for website changes before canceling the contract and letting internal staff take over.
While combing through data and a lot of data, Doge discovered VA’s previous contract for website maintenance.

“Good job at @DeptVetaffairs,” Doge said in a post on Wednesday X. “Virginia had previously paid about $380,000 for minor website modifications. The contract has not been renewed and now 1 in-house VA software engineer spends about 10 hours a week.”
GAS said Thursday it would save $4.5 million by using less-used office spaces to “optimize rentals and reduce our footprint.”

“Such smart moves mean higher efficiency and better agents to serve the American people,” said the GSA post in State X.
