A miniature dachshund named Valerie, who spent nearly a year and a half on a remote island in southern Australia.

When they got home, they heard that Valerie might have been found, but nothing happened, so she packed everything and tried to move on.
A year later, Gardner posted on Facebook again, saying they still believe Valerie may still be alive and that if anyone sees her contact, they still believe it.
“Some people reached out and said they actually saw her on the island several times a year,” Gardner said.
On February 28, there was another discovery Valerie posted on the local Facebook page. That was when Kangala Wildlife Rescue was involved again, according to Gardner.
“Because it’s a small island and a very close community, they met people who had met her and were able to talk to them,” Gardner said. “From there, they made a plan to make her mission.”
Founded in 2020, Kangala Wildlife Rescue organized more cameras and some traps to bring Valerie home safely.
