Yoko Shimomura, known for making up many iconic video game music scores, will receive a BAFTA scholarship.
Her musical works include the Kingdom Hearts series, Final Fantasy XV and Xenoblade Chronicles.
The scholarship, the highest honor of the arts charity, will be exhibited at the 21st BAFTA Game Awards on April 8, and will be broadcast live on Twitch and YouTube starting at 11 a.m. Pacific Time.
Shimomura is a Japanese composer and pianist. She will be recognized for her contribution to the gaming industry. The BAFTA scholarship recognizes those who have made outstanding contributions to film, games or television and is the most prestigious honor of art charities.
Composers who are known as the countless eras that millions of players around the world have enjoyed by defining video game soundtracks, including the Heart of the Kingdom Series, Final Fantasy XV, Mario and Luigi, Xenoblade, Brutal Street, Brutal Street, Mana series, Super Mario Mario Rpg, Super Mario Rpg generations are coming.
“I am so happy to have such an amazing and prestigious award that I honestly can’t believe it completely. I am today, and I am today’s support, thanks to all those who support me, allowing me to continue to be involved in the music I love and discover the medium of music and discover the medium of music that can thrive.”

BAFTA CEO Jane Millichip said in a statement: “It is a real honor to honor Shimomura with the BAFTA scholarship this year. The pioneer of Yoko, Yoko, created an incredibly memorable male soundtrack and created a muddy among women of so many people and in the process of spanning a single industry, it’s a family, it’s a family, it’s a messy process. It inspired countless artists and will continue to resonate with generations.
Shimomura graduated from the Orstrumental Music Department (Piano) Conservatory of Music and is now a freelance composer who has previously worked for beloved video game companies Capcom and Square Enix (formerly known as Square). Shimomura’s work covers a wide range of genres, from computer-generated sounds of rhythm to large-scale classical orchestral works, although she is known for her melodious and poignant songs and intense and dramatic works.
Fellows previously honoured for their work include Shuhei Yoshida, Warwick Davis, Hideo Kojima, Judi Dench, Vanessa Redgrave, Martin Scorsese, Gabe Newell, Siobhan Reddy, Helen Mirren, Hideo Kojima, Tim Schafer, Shigeru Miyamoto, John Carmack, Peter Molyneux, and Thelma Schoonmaker.
The award will be presented to Shimomura at the 21st BAFTA Game Awards held at Queen Elizabeth Hall in London on Tuesday, April 8, and will be broadcast live on BAFTA Youtube and twitch Channel. The ceremony will be hosted for the second time by comedian and video game enthusiast Phil Wang, where he will entertain audiences filled with a great lineup of the industry.
