The Atlantic revealed today that earlier this month a senior Trump official accidentally added magazine editor Jeffrey Goldberg to a group chat on Encrypted Messaging App Signals earlier this month. In the case of Goldberg Reading, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Policy Adviser Stephen Miller and others discussed potential attacks on military targets in Yemen, where a group of men named Hotis had already carried out the attack, Destroy global trade By attacking passing ships.
Then, a few days later, Goldberg said Hegseth sent a very sensitive and detailed message to the group about a planned U.S. strike that took place hours after Hegseth’s message.
This sounds perfect. How do we know that chat is not fake? A government spokesperson confirmed its authenticity.
How big is this error? Discussing sensitive military operations in group chats is a major agreement. Such conversations are conducted in security facilities that usually prohibit cell phones.
Is it illegal? The Atlantic reported that inviting Goldberg officials and national security adviser Michael Waltz may have violated multiple parts of the Espionage Act. But it’s hard to imagine the Trump administration suing him.
So what is the global situation? It can be argued that officials were lucky enough to join Goldberg, who kept some details of the news in the name of national security. but Already alert to the United States – Focus on Trump’s kindness to Russia and hostility to NATO – there may even be more reason to be cautious about the information they share with this administration.
