apple Announce On Monday, it will bring lossless audio and ultra-low latency audio to the AirPods Max headphones when using the included USB-C cable.
With this upcoming update, the AirPods Max headset will unlock 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio to keep the original recordings of quality. Lossless audio also expands to personalized spatial audio “to provide a simpler, non-compressive and immersive experience,” the company said.
Users will be able to listen to over 100 million songs using Apple Music.
As for ultra-low latency audio, Apple says Airpods Max will be more suitable for music production. Using USB-C cables, AirPods Max users will enable musicians to create and mix with personalized spatial audio and head tracking. Apple notes that this means artists can record and mix music without losing audio quality.
Gamers will also benefit from ultra-low latency audio as they will experience lower lag times with AirPods Max.
Lossless audio and ultra-low latency audio will be available in April as a free firmware update for iOS 18.4, iPados 18.4 and Macos Sequoia, as well as Macos Sequoia 15.4 for AirPods Max and use USB-C.
The new feature will be dedicated to the AirPods Max with USB-C, rather than the Lightning version of the headset.
