US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth Said the wasted spending was over as he signed a memorandum to cancel the $580 million contract of the Department of Defense (DOD).
“We’re back and we’re quickly updating efforts to cut waste and quickly cut spending at the Department of Defense,” Hegseth announced in an article on X.
“Today, I’m signing a memorandum directing the termination of more than $580 million in the Department of Defense contract, which is in a grant that doesn’t meet the president’s or the department’s priorities. In other words, it’s not a good use for taxpayers.”
Heggs said they owe Americans transparency, sharing details about some of the cancelled contracts and grants.
“The HR software effort should have taken a year, costing $36 million, but it has taken eight years and is currently out of the $280 million budget and cannot provide the budget. So the budget is over 780%. We don’t do that anymore.”
Heggs added that they found out Another batch of Ministry of Defense grants, Total value is $360 million, which is decarbonized emissions from naval ships, which is part of the Obama-Bayden green agenda.
“It’s $6 million, $5.2 million, and can diversify and engage the Navy by attracting underrepresented BIPOC students and scholars,” Hegseth explained.

Hegseth said at this third point that other cuts on Thursday included waste spending on external consulting services.
“I signed $30 million with Gartner and McKinsey. That’s it bought unused licenses. So when you add all of these licenses, the $580 million DoD contract and grant Doge helped us cut today.”
Hegseth said that when combined, more than $800 million in waste expenditure was cancelled in the first few weeks as the Department of Defense partners with Doge “to ensure our fighters have what they need by reducing waste, fraud and abuse.”

“So, now it may not be wasted time anymore, just sign this thing. What is this? It makes it official. We will continue to walk for you.”
“Have we ever seen this transparency? Amazing, thanks @secdef,” RS.C. Rep. Nancy Mace commented.
