At least according to new House intelligence chairman Rick Crawford, the war on terrorism in the Middle East has put the United States overlooking the security issues in its own backyard.
“We are very focused on the global war on terrorism, opening up opportunities for countries like China,” Arkansas Republican told a small group of reporters.
“But even when you go back to China, you know that obviously, Russians are very aggressive in the hemisphere, especially in countries like this one Nicaragua, Cuba, Venezuela elsewhere,” Crawford added.
“They took this opportunity to try to build an impactful niche in our backyard.”

Since the President Donald Trump After taking office, his administration pushed for a new Monroe doctrine-like focus, most notably Trump’s call for the United States to retake the Panama Canal from China.
The call was answered through US-based BlackRock’s deal that took over two ports of the canal of CK Hutchison, Hong Kong. Now, Chinese authorities threaten to thwart the deal.
As China increasingly threatens the Indo-Pacific American allies, Crawford believes the United States can win the Chinese If needed – now. “But we don’t have a lot of time. We can’t sit down and think about the situation.”
Pentagon officials say China and Russia are actively testing space’s offensive capabilities, while Chinese observers warn CCP ahead of the United States’ shipbuilding capabilities, superb characters, anti-fleet ballistic missiles, networks, and are rapidly expanding its nuclear arsenal.
Crawford said the U.S. may need to rethink its policies from a serious tendency toward cybersecurity to a focus on offensive attacks.

Mike Turner, former chairman of Crawford’s committee, issued an ominous public warning calling on President Joe Biden to explain the information about the threat, which was later reportedly Russia’s anti-satellite capability. Sources familiar with the situation told Fox News Digital that the warning and public fears later led to a decision by spokesman Mike Johnson to replace Turner as committee director in January.
Crawford’s view is also closer to Trump’s view than Turner’s.
Asked if he shared Turner’s attention, Crawford said: “Everything that Russia does is something I care about because it applies to their belligerent behavior and their potential.”
“I mean, the reason they outweigh their weight is their GDP about the size of Spain. This is not to say that they are a huge economy, but they are willing to do things other countries don’t do and are willing to fight. They are willing to invade neighbors, which is a problem. ”

It’s a message that people expect to hear from Trump as Trump attempts to negotiate a thaw in U.S.-Russia relations between President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“[Russia’s] “Willing to do what most civilized countries wouldn’t do put them in a unique category. So let’s work to end hostilities in Ukraine and make this range peaceful as we can. But, as Reagan said, you know, but verify.”
Crawford also said the intelligence community [IC] “Cultural transformation” is needed to address recruitment and retention issues. He called IC’s treatment of Havana syndrome “a slap on the face.”
The IC’s assessment is that Havana Syndrome (also known as an abnormal health event (AHI)) may not be a foreign opponent’s job “severely missed marks”.
“If we have problems with recruitment and retention, because the workforce does not consider the seventh floor [where leadership sits] With their support, this is a real issue of national security. ”
Crawford continues: “IF analyzes integrity or lack of driving force, which is something we must pay close attention to. We will conduct strict supervision. ”
Last December, Crawford’s CIA subcommittee released a report that found “increasingly” that foreign opponents lag behind many abnormal health events, and the IC’s assessment found the contrary, “developed in a way that is inconsistent with the integrity and thoroughness of the analytical”.

Crawford added that the United States needs to maintain relations with Guatemala.
“Guatemala is probably our best ally in the hemisphere,” he said. “They want to be partners. There are some other opportunities we see – Guyana and Suriname are beneficiaries of some of the huge mineral wealth that has developed over the past four to five years.”

Regarding the U.S.’s northern neighbor, Crawford believes that due to a significant national security partnership, the current quarrel with Canada has been cited with tariffs and Trump said it would be the 51st state in the U.S. to be quiet.
“We have some families spit here,” Crawford said. “But you know, Canada is a big ally.”
