Walters said the Department of Education has not helped implement an effective education system, but is chosen by unions of radical teachers, such as the American Federation of Teachers, who he said has been promoting diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) and other leftist ideologies in the state, as well as Oklahoma.
“The disruption of education is the federalization of education and the unionization of education. That’s what we’ve got rid of the concept of schools that value communities, families, individuals,” he said. “You have thousands of bureaucrats there pushing the left agenda, the most radical agenda ever. They’re teaching kids to hate this country.
“You can talk to the teachers about the types of training the Fed requires them to go,” he continued. “These are not helping them achieve students in the classroom. It’s about pushing the left agenda toward the children.”

You look at the use of teenage drugs. You look at the collapse of the family sector. All of these things coincide with the establishment of the federal Department of Education and the rise of teachers’ unions.”

Walters expects that cutting education departments will free up a lot of money instead of paying bureaucrats’ salaries, but providing them directly to students’ education and teachers.
He noted that he made cuts to the Oklahoma education department, where he reduced the bureaucracy of 150 employees, which he claimed was saving millions of dollars, creating opportunities for cram school programs, and providing more competitive salaries to hire top teachers.
“You will see it a thousand times in the Federal Department of Education,” he said.
