Nvidia will build accelerated quantum computing research center


Nvidia It says a Boston-based research center is being built to provide cutting-edge technology to advance quantum computing.

The NVIDIA Accelerated Quantum Research Center (NVAQC) will integrate leading quantum hardware with AI supercomputers to achieve so-called accelerated quantum supercomputing. NVAQC will help solve the most challenging problems in quantum computing, from solving quantum noise to experimental quantum processor conversion into practical devices.

Building this new center politically seems to be symbolic. The Trump administration has been building anything for big corporations. By creating an important new center in the United States, NVIDIA can show that it is creating U.S. jobs in a technology area that is critical to U.S. competitiveness.

Leading quantum computing innovators, including Quantinuum, Quantum Machines and Quera Computing, will be working with researchers from leading universities such as Harvard Quantum Systeming (HQI) and Massachusetts Institute of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) through collaborations with researchers from leading universities, such as Harvard Quantum Systeming (HQI) and Massachusetts Institute of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

The NVIDIA GB200 NVL72 system will also accelerate AI algorithms in quantum computing research.

To address the challenges of integrating GPU and QPU hardware, NVAQC will adopt the NVIDIA CUDA-Q™ quantum development platform, enabling researchers to develop new hybrid quantum algorithms and applications.

HQI – A community of researchers dedicated to advancing quantum systems and their applications will work with NVAQC to advance their research on next-generation quantum computing technologies.

“NVAQC is a very special addition to the Boston area’s quantum ecosystem, including leading university groups and startups,” said Mikhail Lukin, Harvard professor and co-director of HQI, in a statement. “NVIDIA’s accelerated quantum and classical computing technologies have the potential to facilitate the application of quantum error correction to quantum computing systems, accelerate quantum computing research and enhance the field of useful quantum computing.”

Researchers at the EQUS Group, MIT Quantum Engineering Center, will use NVAQC to develop technologies such as quantum error correction.
