Assassin’s Creed Shadows review: An ambitious and captivating world that’s stuck in the past

The fate of a company as big as Ubisoft is unlikely to depend on the success of a Tentpole single player game. But the company couldn’t afford another big mistake shortly after that Star Wars: Illegal and XDEFIANT Failed to bring the world down. Ubisoft urgently needs to be very popular (for Rainbow Six Siege x Overhaul Good walk). The good news for the company is Assassin’s Creed Shadow It is expected to achieve this goal.

On the surface, that’s exactly what you’d expect: A huge Assassin’s Creed game takes dozens of hours to beat. Given that the game keeps pointing to all the tasks and sidecodes you, there is a lot to do besides the core story. I rarely get bored during the game – even during the long flashbacks, I rarely illustrate the stories of Ubisoft’s developers taking care of and considering this huge world, and connecting it together.

Ubisoft won’t risk running poorly from jumps and then spend months fixing it Cyberpunk 2077. Thankfully, in most cases, Assassin’s Creed Shadow It works fine on my console (Basic PS5 and Xbox Series X) and on my PC.

It looks luxurious on my high-end gaming rig, which features an NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 4090, a 14th-generation I9 Intel CPU, and 32GB of RAM. I have zero issues when running everything on very high settings. The action hovers around the 55-59 fps range, without a considerable frame rate – except for the slightly harsh switch to cutscenes, which works at 30 fps. It is worth noting that Assassin’s Creed Shadow Verified by steam deck, but I can’t test it there.

Even in the chaotic battles on the three platforms I’ve played, there was no noticeable slowdown. However, I did find some small visual distortions on the PS5. Early on, when strolling in puddles in performance mode, water gathered on dirt tracks in an unnatural way. This distracted me from my conversation with my allies.

In winter, once I, the texture of the grass poked out in the snow, faded away, and when I tore the countryside with my horseback. For recording, this happens in balanced mode, which attempts to assign differences between quality and performance modes with visual fidelity and frame rate. To be fair, these are small complaints, but they break the immersion for me for the time being.

Another weird quirk is that my horse is often stuck when I whistle. For example, if I call Steed and I’m on a narrow bridge, it might spawn into the river below. A slight annoyance that is more about how to program for you to catch up with you, but considering that you will risk some of the many narrow paths you will be willing to take.

The big hook this time is that you can swap between two characters almost when you need it. Naoe is a more traditional Assassin’s Creed protagonist, while Warrior Yangzhen is a clumsy warrior who can walk through the door and carry his body more easily to cover up the attractions than his opponents. There are some tasks and character interactions that require you to play a role in a special role, but in most cases you can play like an open world.

I kept on as strong as possible to reach Dana. She is more flexible and capable of climbing up the stronghold on the stronghold – her grapple hook is a very convenient tool – and performs a secret assassination. After all, she is the only one of two people with the hidden blades of allegoricality. She has very smooth movements and one aspect of the game is said to benefit from the developers In delay.

Unlike Yasuke, Naoe can use the classic Eagle visual abilities to reveal enemies, cover the sights and food that cover the walls. She also has enough resistance, and even more so, you can unlock abilities such as very useful double assassination. she KusarigamaThe implementation of the sickle and the weight connected by the chain is a large part of her arsenal.

This is not to say that Yasuke is not an interesting character either. Spread the enemy’s numbers with his bow or loudly teppō The guns were charged before using a long samurai sword, crushed clubs and special moves such as bounced into the walls and never got old.

Both protagonists are well written and perform well when using English audio at least. However, lip sync doesn’t always match what the character says, which is a distraction of cutscenes. While I didn’t play the game in immersive mode, the characters spoke in native Japanese and Portuguese, I would love to see if the lip sync issue stands out there.

Still, the story is powerful enough to catch my attention in the cutscenes and the rest of the game. This is a story that begins with the personal bets of two heroes but involves protecting Japan’s future. The writers have crafted a narrative that is full of conspiracy and complexity and I love how they weave a wider range of Assassin’s Creed legends shadow.

The story and structure I want to tell are rich and complex enough to justify 40-60 hours, and it takes a lot of people to complete the game. (New reconnaissance system (e.g. Assassin’s Creed Sea City Rage.

I like playing in Canon mode, which removes dialogue selections and allows the narrative beat to work as the designer intends. Revealing how Naoe and Yasuke became destroyers of allies, but their interactions with other characters, especially Naoe’s rash relationship with a gun-waving character, are largely appealing.

The performer (and my god, there are a lot of talking parts here), overall done well. But it was a little shocking to hear a character speaking in a normal North American accent when most actors brought Japanese and Portuguese delivery.

As told, overall, the structure is a little weird in some places. The main stories include flashback sequences, which include a flashback sequence with a combat tutorial that takes place after the prologue of the action sequence, which ruins the flow even if they add some color to the protagonist’s backstory.

I’m not a big fan of the way Ubisoft builds progress systems. Naoe and Yasuke each have six skill trees, all of which are broken down into levels. To unlock the next level, players must accumulate enough experience points by completing various side activities, including horse archery and finding hidden items around the temple. These can be fun in a vacuum, but when you have a lot of backup mastery points to spend on skills, it gets a little frustrated and has to rush around to commemorate some shrines or find meditation points before you can get some cool moves from Naoe and Yasuke.

There are some other outdated systems in the game. Defeat one rōnin – A hired samurai hired hero – In an interesting battle I earned me decent loot, including some legendary light armor. But I can’t equip it because my character hasn’t reached a high enough level yet to simply put some new rags. This has no logical significance.

Scaling the enemy’s difficulty from various regions, Ubisoft avoids it phantom, It’s very tiring here, too. This is an artificial way to strengthen difficulty and development when other methods, such as more creative level design, new enemy types, and games that manually make the game harder in its settings. Given the historic nature of the series, it does follow the degree to which some of Ubisoft’s game ideas have been.

Usually, I really don’t care about spending time searching for equipment upgrades to have a chance in the new area. That said, privileges on certain devices may come in handy. Sliding around the castle, pulling out a few key enemies and unlocking the chest with some valuable equipment, makes me feel meaningful – even as I try to move toward my point of view on enemy turf, even if there is something extra to do. Castles are valuable strongholds and provide a defensive advantage for attackers, so logically, bad people can resident around the point of view, which reveals our heroes expanding to specific perches, thus revealing new points of interest visible to our heroes.

Even without that aspect of the game, it’s always worth mentioning, just like the Assassin’s Creed series. The minimum reward is a comprehensive shot of the surrounding area shadow It was shocking that I pointed out every point statement to follow my path.

Aside from the aforementioned puddles and grass anomalies, roaming in this gorgeous game is a pleasure, with its rich leaves, carefully assembled settlements and dynamic weather systems combined to form a rich and living world that I won’t soon forget. It is also a wise addition to allowing Naoe and Yaskue to extinguish the lighting system of candles and lanterns to help them hide in the shadows at night.

There are many interesting aspects Assassin’s Creed Shadow. In an instant, I remembered a beat Our final second partWhen an assassin tried to take me out, I just started the peaceful side of the activity. That was a pleasant unexpected twist. Meanwhile, an optional battle with advanced enemies at the foot of a fiery tower late at night feels very profound.

There are many riding Assassin’s Creed Shadow. Ubisoft definitely hopes this is the goal-success, and there aren’t many players waiting for the price to drop. There is also a lot of competition to watch, especially when Sucker Punch Productions sequel The ghost of Tsushima, The Ghost of Yōtei,,,,, Plan to arrive sometime this year.

Indeed, there is indeed enough time here to attract assassin’s creed diehards and new immigrants who may be attracted by the 16th-century Japanese environment but not knowing their elbows. Assassin’s Creed Shadow With impressive technical work, excellent performances and a vast story, but unfortunately some frustrating decisions and an outdated gaming system put it overwhelming. However, I am eager to continue exploring.

Assassin’s Creed Shadow will hit PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Windows PC, Mac, Amazon Luna and Ubisoft+ on March 20. It will be used on iPad in the future.
