Williams has been living in assisted living facilities for one year since May 2022, following court-designated orders. She told the “The View” host that it was her decision to get a competency test, and she passed it with “Flying Color”.
“I need to breathe fresh air. I need to see a doctor, so that’s why I went to the hospital,” she said. “My choice to have an independent assessment of my inability to be my choice. I don’t. They dare to say I’m inability to be incapacitated. I don’t.”

Williams was taken to the hospital after officials responded to a 911 call from her nursing facility.

“On Monday, March 10, 2025, the New York Police Department responded to the welfare check at 505 West 35th Street. New York Police Department said in a statement provided to Fox News figures.
“EMS responded and transported a 60-year-old woman to a local hospital for evaluation.”
Williams threw a handwritten note that read “Help! Wendy!!” according to New York Post.

She admitted that she no longer wanted a guardian. “It’s been three years since then, and it’s time for my money and my life to come back to where it is,” Williams said. “At this point in my life, I want to terminate custody and continue my life, if possible.”
In February 2024, the former talk show host’s team announced she was diagnosed with progressive aphasia and Frontotemporal dementia (FTD).

“In the past few years, questions have been raised about Wendy’s ability to process information, and many speculate about Wendy’s situation, especially when she starts to lose words, sometimes good actions and has difficulty understanding financial transactions,” the statement said.

“In 2023, after a series of medical tests, Williams was formally diagnosed with major progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Aphasia, a condition that affects language and communication skills, and frontotemporal dementia, which additional disorders affect behavior and cognitive function, have shown Wendy’s life.”
