Fran McCaffery reportedly fired University of Iowa After 15 years of planning, the men’s basketball head coach Friday.
McCaffery’s fire broke out just one day after the blowout loss of Illinois in Thursday’s Big 10 Championship. The team will miss it NCAA Championship Second straight season.

Just minutes after McCaffery opened fire, his son Connor, a former Iowa player, current Butler men’s basketball assistant head coach and Caitlin Clark’s boyfriend, posted three clown emojis on X.
Connor’s last two X posts were retweeting the celebration of his father’s 200-win memorial in Iowa and had two heart emojis in his emotional interview with his father on a videotape that beat Rutgers in February.
Connor has played for Fran for six seasons in Iowa since 2017-23.

In his six seasons, Connor has played in 166 games, ranking second in Iowa history. He was injured for most of his college career, but the Redshirts and Covid-19 sports assigned him six seasons of eligibility.
In addition to his shared season, he competed in the NCAA Championships every season of each season. He averaged 4.5 points and 3 rebounds per game, and scored 111 wins and tied for Jordan Bohannon with the most planning history. His career assist-to-transfer ratio is 3.59 (527 assists to 147 turnovers) and is the second best in NCAA history.

Iowa is the same Connor meets Clark When she started starring for the women’s team from 2020-24. The couple began dating in April 2023 after Clark led Iowa to the NCAA Championship. Connor was a senior at the time and began his coaching career after graduation.
Fran McCaffery led the team to seven NCAA Tournament, leaving Iowa State for four to enter the second round, but never reached a sweet 16. The coach will lead eight NCAA Championship teams, and Covid-19-19, which did not result in the cancellation of the 2020 Championship.
McCaffery has a record of 297-207 and will be the leader of all-time victory in his 15 seasons as Head Coach of Hawkeye.
