White House pulls nomination of David Weldon as CDC director

Fox News Digital learned that the White House is nominating Dave Weldon as director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Weldon is expected to hold a confirmation hearing on Thursday.

The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pension (Help) Committee announced it canceled the hearing in a statement Thursday morning. However, it confirmed that lawmakers will still vote on the nomination of Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Dr. Marty Makary, Commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

“It’s obvious that there’s no vote in the Senate to be confirmed. It’s in vain,” a source familiar with the nomination told Fox News Digital.

Weldon, a doctor, former Florida congressman, has made statements about vaccines in the past and is expected to be presented at a hearing. Welton said in a 2007 statement that there are “legal problems” about the potential link between vaccines and neurodevelopmental disorders in children, such as autism.
