Vice President JD Vance condemned European countries last month for their lack of commitment to democracy, as many of them lashed out at legal attacks by populist leaders.
Vance’s criticism not only applies to Europe, but because populist leaders around the world are facing legal troubles from a thorough election ban Criminal conviction.

1. French Marine Corps

Brazil’s Supreme Court last week accepted charges from former President Jair Bolsonaro, allegedly attempting to continue serving after his 2022 election defeat, ordering the former leader to stand trial.
All five judges ruled in favor of the charges filed by prosecutor Paulo Gonet, who accused Bolsonaro and 33 people of attempting coups, including poisoning his successor, current President Luiz Inácioináciolula da Silva, and killing a Supreme Court judge.

The former president repeatedly denied misconduct and said he was politically persecuted.

Trump acknowledges that populist leaders like him face challenges around the world. He commented on Le Pen’s “very important” situation in a statement Tuesday.
“She was banned for five years and she was the leading candidate,” Trump said. “It sounds like this country, it sounds like this country.”
